Our charges for publicly funded work are based upon the graduated or fixed fee scales in force at the current time. Chambers has an ongoing commitment to publicly funded work. However, following the abolition by the Bar Council of the Deeming provision, the policy of Chambers is to consider accepting this work on a case-by-case basis.
Where graduated or fixed fees do not apply, we should wish to discuss and agree appropriate fees prior to a client sending any instructions or brief, upon receipt of the actual instructions or brief, or before any hearing. On receipt of papers, we shall be able to quote a firm fee or an hourly rate. Fees are based upon the experience of counsel, the complexity of the case, and the length of time that will be involved in conducting the work. At the conclusion of a privately funded criminal case, we would expect payment to be made within 30 days after acquittal or sentence, irrespective of whether any claim for costs is to be made out of central funds or whether any appeal is contemplated. In all other private cases, payment of the fee becomes due on or before three calendar months from the date upon which the fee note is rendered for the work.
In appropriate civil cases, we will be pleased to enter into a conditional fee agreement with you. In such conditional fee cases, payment of the fee becomes due within three calendar months of the case having been settled.
